What are some of Sophocles' views on religion and political power as revealed in the Oedipus Trilogy?

I just finished reading the Oedipus Trilogy. The only thing I seem to notice is that Sophocles thinks that the gods are the playwrights of mortal destinies. Is there anything else significant worth mentioning? As for his view on political power, I only know he wants political leaders to be, as stated by Creon, outspoken, righteous, and loyal. Other than these, I'm clueless. Any ideas?
