Why do we the consumer have to pay sales tax?

I mean taxes should be paid by individuals who take in money. Somewhere way back when a merchant began ping his tax responsibilities on to the consumer, others fell in on it, and then they got it ped as a law. It is such a freaking crime that we should have to pay to spend money. And everyon is okay with this!!?? I know Im not the only person sho is poissed about this!!
